Medal of Honor Recipient Melvin Morris, Hero of the Vietnam War (Full Interview)

Image
HOSTED BY: https://musicofthevietnamwar.com Retired Army Sergeant (First Class) Melvin Morris received the distinguished 'Medal of Honor' -- the highest military honor -- for his heroics during the Vietnam War. In September 1969, Morris led an advance across enemy lines near Chi Lang, Vietnam, to retrieve a fallen comrade and keep sensitive documents from falling into enemy hands. He single-handedly destroyed an enemy force that had pinned his battalion from a series of bunkers. He was shot three times, including once in the chest, but did not stop until he reached relative safety with the American casualty. Decades would pass from his action in Vietnam until he was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama in 2014, the only living African American hero of the men known as the 'Valor 24', who received the military's highest honor following a lengthy review of their actions in previous wars. MSG Roy Benavidez speech 1991

Image
HOSTED BY: https://musicofthevietnamwar.com For educational purposes only. **For those who are having trouble understanding, this speech was given, as the title suggests, in 1991. While it is true that Reagan was not president in 1991, that portion of the video is simply the citation and presentation of the MOH to MSG Benavidez which was played to introduce him to the stage prior to the speech. Notice a few things that should help clarify: During the citation, the setting is outside. During the speech, it is inside. During the citation, MSG Benavidez is wearing his full Class A uniform including his beret. During the speech, he is downgraded to a Class B uniform (no jacket) and is not wearing his beret. During the citation, President Regan is present. During the speech, he is not. The reason for all of these massive and obvious differences is that the speech was not given in 1981 when Regan was president. It was, again and exactly as stated in the title, given a decade later. In 1991.
